The Incredible Strip
They were in a helicopter. Landing quickly is kind of what helicopters fucking do.
I did like The Incredible Hulk, I thought it was good for what it was… a summer popcorn blockbuster. I think the 8.2 it is sitting at on IMDb at the moment is a tad high… if it settles at 7.5 or 7.6, I’ll accept it. It was fun, but had its flaws, and was rather devoid of character progress. It was better than 2003’s version, but as derided as Ang Lee’s Hulk was, I did like what he did with the rather twisted imagery of Bruce’s father experimenting on him, and some of the other more cerebral aspects. Plus, while I love Ed Norton and Liv Tyler, I love Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly even more. I don’t know what issues kept them from coming back, but I would have preferred them.
(Jennifer Connelly is hot. Yes)
(So is Eric Bana. Mmhm)
All that being said, The Incredible Hulk was very much worth seeing. I don’t think it was Iron Man good, but I don’t feel as if my money was wasted. It served its purpose.
You may notice the byline on the comic doesn’t just feature my name, but another person’s! I just made this name up, and it has no meaning whatsoever.
Actually, Aaron Begg is a long time Aikida reader, perhaps better known for his IRC moniker, Beerman. I brought Beer in to help me with what I had identified as an issue with the strip, that being consistency and overall funny. The podcasts that Krahulik and Holkins do inspired me, in that they showed me how tossing an idea back and forth can really refine it, like a shiny rock of humour! One podcast they even pondered as to how solo creators went about this process, and that struck me. I feel I have a firm grasp on these characters and the storytelling system, but with this iteration of Aikida, I want a very refined feel. I want quality every strip, so I went to someone who I know has been with these characters since day one (almost), understands them, and is fairly funny.
Today’s strip was our first attempt at collaborating, and I think turned out pretty well considering we really pushed for a Hulk themed comic.
In the spirit of the PA podcasts, I logged the IRC session I and Beer had when hacking the strip out, and you can read that here, if you would like. (I’m Fenris, if you weren’t aware.. he is, naturally, Beer. Crazy.) I’d like to be able to do an actual podcast like this, mainly because I would simply prefer to use Skype or whatever to discuss strips, for ease. My typing isn’t fantastic, and it makes for a slightly clunky endeavor.
Beer’s going to be gone for the next few weeks though, so I’ll be on my own again just awhile longer. This can only mean scads of penis and fart jokes, of course.
Speaking of penises…
It’s taken a week or so for Spore’s Creature Creator to shake out (Even before it’s official release?), but as the creatures come in more frequently now, I think I’ve seen the future of the game. And that future looks to be putting dicks on pretty much anything… the bigger the dick, the better.
(Thanks to silentpyjamas for the link)
EDIT: Looks like that one is gone, here is another. In fact, there are dozens of similar videos up on Youtube. Ladies and Gentlemen, Spore!
I personally have had little interest in the game, and this maybe cements it. Don’t get me wrong… this is fucking hilarious, but Spore honestly isn’t doing it for me. There really are not many games on the horizon that have me interested, beyond maybe Fallout 3 (Do not fuck this up, Bethesda). My interest is more in the games that are yet to be, like the Mass Effect sequel (Do not fuck this up, EA), and clinging to hope that Michael Ancel is actually involved with Beyond Good & Evil 2. (I miss Jade… Do not fuck this up, Ubisoft.)
BG&E2 is really the big one for me, maybe even moreso than ME2. BG&E was inspiring to me… the imagery of the game contributed a lot to the fantasy run of Aikida. And honestly, I can’t stand the puzzle/stealth/move-this-block-run-jump sorts of games like Beyond Good & Evil (or the Tomb Raider that inspired much of that gameplay), but the world and characters were so interesting, I set about the task of completing the game. And absolutely loved it.
So I’m in for the sequel, that goes without saying.
And we’re coming to a close here (Just like the Lakers, oooo). I promised a hot strip today, but that will occur on Wednesday instead… I felt the Hulk strip needed to come today to be fresh. Please vote, we’re almost in the top 50. This is good. Also, check for an update to this post later on in the day as some sort of donation option/incentive may be available.
See you Wednesday, I love you all. Except that guy. Yeah, him. He smells like corn.
Corn, I tell you.
