The Product Placement Strip

[23:55] <Fenris> Hrm
[23:55] <Fenris> You know
[23:55] <Fenris> If I put a black tuft on top of Tito’s head and colour his skin yellow.. he’s Bert

It’s true.

This strip wasn’t actually as much fun to draw and complete as you would think. Colouring was an exceptional pain, and still, I’m not 100% behind the finished product. I’m frustrated with Aikida’s hair, too… as usual. I think I’m just going to go short with it, and leave it at that. Yeah, I get fussy about shit like that.

Beer and I spent a good hour or so today laying down the groundwork for our summer story arch, and I like what we came up with, even if these are just very rudimentary ideas. The collaboration process is going well, so far, and will yield some good product. I can feel it! In my heart!

RANDOM BULLETS TIME!!!!!

  • Props to Fanboys on one of the five best webcomics I have ever seen. If you’ve ever seen Seinfeld, you know that strip is spot on. The part where Kramer goes, “That adds up, you know”, and George throws his hand up absolutely nails it. Awesome.
  • What’s more important about the NBA Finals? Pierce winning, or Kobe losing? I dislike Kobe the person, but appreciate Kobe the baller. Still, got to give it up to Pierce and the Celtics. The dude is a warrior.
  • Stan Winston, 1946 - 2008. If you’re my age, you grew up with Stan, even though you might not even know it. I did, though, as I have closely followed movies all my life, and it honestly makes me sad to hear this. You’re going to hear a lot of words like “pioneer” and “genius” in the usual run of articles about his passing, but here is the best way to remember him… almost every really cool creature effect you can imagine, from the past 25-30 years, probably involved Stan, from Aliens to Iron Man. Appreciate them. It’s just not going to be the same without him.
  • This question came to me when I was drawing Tito’s bed in the strip… why are we (humans) naturally inclined to position our beds with the head near or directly against a wall?  Is it some sort of primitive protective instinct?  Smart people, I need answers.
  • Gross.

Alright, a few things before I go. I’m hoping to have a donation option and incentive up soon, like, some time today. Check back if you just have too much damn money and enjoy the thought of me eating and living. Second, keeping voting. We’re getting.. somewhere!

Finally, this Youtube video might be a good PSA for Tito, but is also for F.J. Dude, if you’re out there somewhere, I know you’ll appreciate this.

(Thanks to Farnsworth for the link.)

Let us do this again, Friday.

About the bed against a wall, it just seems sensible to want as much of a view as possible, and therefore place the head against a wall so that when you sit up, you can see as much of a room as possible without turning around. (Would that be the “primitive protective instinct”?) Also, in case you want to have a bedside table near the head of the bed, wouldn’t you rather have that too along the wall rather than in the middle of a room where it’s more likely to be in the way? And I’ve got a lamp on the wall above the head of my bed. Which I rarely sleep in, because I tend to fall asleep in my couch, with my head about a meter from the nearest wall. And here I sit with my back towards a corner blocked by a door that’s always open, just waiting for an intruder to step out from that all too convenient hiding place. Modern life has dulled my primitive protective instincts.

And I wasn’t here on June the 18th, because it was only today that I spotted the familiar name “Aikida” over at Frumph’s WebComic List, Ratings & Reviews. Apparently I must’ve missed the Mail Order Bride comic. Or did I? It does sound kind of familiar.

Neither do eyes, noses, hair or pretty much anything else I draw. I understand you’re just trying to get a rise here, but I came to terms with the fact that I am a mediocre artist a long time ago, sir.
